Frequently Asked Question
1. What are Amaatra silk vests made from?
Amaatra silk vests are made from natural 16 momme silk satin ("penetril" finish) and 14 momme silk, chosen for their lustre and strength. These heavier silk weights give the vests structure and shine while remaining soft to wear as an overshirt-style layering piece.
2. How are Amaatra vests constructed from art-apparel offcuts?
Each vest is pieced together from fabric sections cut from Amaatra's original art-apparel pieces, meaning a single vest can combine sections from more than one painted design, finished with a durable machine hem for a clean edge.
3. How many designs are available in the Vests collection?
The Vests collection currently offers 4 designs: Autumn Rose, Bird on Globe ("My Kind of Forest"), Colorful Dreams, and Blue Whales — all priced at €180,00 and available in a Free/one-size fit.
4. Are Amaatra vests OEKO-TEX certified?
Yes, like the rest of the collection, all Amaatra silk vests are OEKO-TEX Certified, confirming the silk satin and silk fabrics used have been tested and verified free of harmful substances.
5. What sizing is available for Amaatra vests?
Amaatra vests are currently offered in a Free (one-size) fit, designed as a loose, decorative overshirt layer rather than a fitted garment, making it adaptable across a range of body types.
6. How is an Amaatra vest different from a standard silk overshirt?
Unlike commercial silk overshirts (such as those from Kiton or ART OF SILK marketplaces), an Amaatra vest is built from joined sections of original painted art-apparel fabric, giving each piece a patchwork-of-artwork identity rather than a single repeating print.
7. What occasions suit wearing an Amaatra silk vest?
The vibrant, painterly design makes Amaatra vests well suited as a statement layering piece over solid-colour outfits — for gallery openings, dinners, or any occasion where a bold, artistic accent piece is wanted.
8. How should I clean a silk satin vest?
Silk satin and silk vests should be dry cleaned or gently hand-washed in cold water, then air-dried flat or on a padded hanger away from direct heat and sunlight to preserve both the fabric sheen and the painted design.
9. Why are Amaatra vests priced at €180?
The €180 price reflects the 16 momme silk satin and 14 momme silk fabrics used, the multi-panel piecing construction from art-apparel offcuts, and the machine-hemmed finishing — positioning it above basic silk scarves but in line with artisan wearable-art pieces from UK studios like Carole Waller.
11. Are Amaatra vests suitable as gifts for art lovers?
Yes, since each vest carries fragments of an original painting's story (e.g. the Autumn Rose or Blue Whales narrative), they make distinctive gifts for people who value wearable art, sustainable fashion, or meaningful, story-led clothing over generic fashion pieces.
